The Transplant Program in BC is very active in various aspects of Research, whether that be in basic science, clinical research, quality assurance, or technology.
Research plays a fundamental role in understanding more fully the complex interplay between the host environment and the donor organ and how to recognize and prevent outcomes such as acute rejection and infection. Preservation and rehabilitation of the organ during procurement, storage and transport is fundamental to delivering an optimal organ for implantation, and these processes are also actively under investigation.
Our Transplant Research Program is supported by the Department of Urologic Sciences, Division of Nephrology, the Jack Bell Research Institute, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and the University of British Columbia.
